VOLKSWAGEN CLIMBS TO NEW HEIGHTS FOR CHARITY

20th June 2008

A team of four Volkswagen employees from Altrincham are stepping up their training ready for the Yorkshire three peak challenge to help raise funds for a local learning disability charity.

The Gilbert Lawton Volkswagen walkers will be climbing Yorkshire’s three highest peaks on 14th June covering 25 miles within just 12 hours.

The Volkswagen challengers are aiming to raise eight thousand pounds for Stockport CP Skills Group. The parent-led registered charity provides support for people who have physical and/or learning disabilities across Stockport, Manchester, Trafford, Tameside and Cheshire.

The Skills Group provides a day service for adults with complex needs, arranging activities to enable them to become more confident and independent. The charity is aiming to raise funds for a new minibus to transport the adults to its daily activities.

Sarah Thomas of Stockport CP Skills Group is delighted that Gilbert Lawton Altrincham is supporting them. “The money raised will allow us to purchase a desperately needed minibus. We presently have three vehicles but with over 60 members the additional minibus will enable us to take more people to various sporting activities and day excursions. We would like to wish the Volkswagen walkers the best of luck.”

The long and demanding walk will see Steve Poole, workshop foreman, Harry McGagh, technician, Graham Sanderson, driver and Louise Bryers, service administrator climb some 2,142 metres ( 5,200 feet) which has to be completed within 12 hours. The summits reached will be Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Alister Stones, Gilbert Lawton Altrincham’s brand manager is hoping for good weather. “We hope the weather conditions will be suitable as the team have all been training hard for this walking feat.

“Donations are looking good but we welcome any extra support from the public, for such a worthy cause, to contact us directly.”

People are requested to contact Mo Shepherd at the Volkswagen retailer if they would like to add their support by emailing moshepherd@smithknightfay.co.uk or call 0161 6058152.

Gilbert Lawton Altrincham is part of one of the UK largest Volkswagen retailer groups.
