The first Environmental Commendation, which has been certified by the German TÜV Nord, was awarded to the Passat, Volkswagen’s successful mid-size model. The Commendation is primarily based on the results of a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in accordance with ISO 14040/44, which covers a broad range of environmental burdens such as energy usage, emissions and others. The LCA considers not only the service life but the entire life cycle – from production and use, right through to disposal.
