Motability is a registered charity, which helps disabled people, and their families become mobile with the aid of cars and powered wheelchairs. Set up as a government initiative in 1977, the scheme now has almost 400,000 customers and is the leading car scheme for disabled people. Eligibility

To be eligible for a car through the Motability scheme, you must be in receipt of the following:

• A Higher Rate Component of the Disability Allowance (DLA)
• A War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
• Either of these allowances can be used towards the cost of a Motability vehicle.
• Non-drivers and children, travelling as passengers, are also eligible for a vehicle. They too need to be in receipt of one of the allowances above.
